President and CEO Alan R. Morse, JD, PhD, and William Seiple, PhD, Chief Research Officer of Lighthouse Guild Research Institute, presented “The Effects of Feedback during Eye Movement Control Training in Patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration” at the Gordon Research Conference on Eye Movement. Dr. Morse also presented “Reducing the Burdens of Vision Loss” at a Dine in the Dark event to more than 60 United Nations (UN) ambassadors and leaders from global nongovernmental organizations.

Laura Sperazza, OD, Director of Low Vision Rehabilitation Services presented “Technology and the Low Vision Patient” at the Bascom Palmer Inter-American Course in Clinical Ophthalmology.
Andrea Zimmerman, OD, FAAO, with Suzanne Sherman OD, Columbia Ophthalmology published “A Novel Collaboration: Multifocal RGPs and Low Vision Aids Increase Quality of Life In Visually Impaired.” Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, Dec 2019. doi: 10.1016/j.clae.2019.11.015. Dr. Zimmerman also presented on “Vision Loss and TBI” at NYU Langone’s Rusk Rehabilitation.
Edward Ross, LCSW, BCD, Director of Behavioral Health Clinic, addressed the Assistance Dog International’s Annual Conference. Mr. Ross described the systematic approach developed by Lighthouse Guild to screen applicants who have histories of trauma and other mental health disabilities for service or guide dogs. Lighthouse Guild has provided these services in collaboration with the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind/America’s VetDogs and has assessed over 140 individuals across the country.
Lighthouse Guild Behavioral Health was recognized as an exemplary practice by the National Council for Behavioral Health Care Transitions Network. At the National Council for Behavioral Health End of Project Summit attended by policy makers of New York State and NGOs and leaders of hospitals and mental health agencies, Lighthouse Guild was proud to be featured as one of the high performing practice organizations that made significant progress in coordinating care and reducing re-hospitalizations. Using health information technology to support rapid, effective transitions of new patients into care and integration between Behavioral Health, the Health Center, and Low Vision Rehabilitation services within the agency, our system improved access to essential services for patients in this program.
