Lighthouse Guild Celebrates Visionary Dr. Bruce P. Rosenthal

On October 25, 2023, the Lotus Club, generously provided by Robert Israel, was the backdrop for a cocktail reception in honor of Lighthouse Guild’s former Chief of Low Vision Services, Dr. Bruce P. Rosenthal. Sixty guests gathered to toast his profound impact on the field of low vision and the lives of many individuals under his care.

In more than five decades of practice, Dr. Rosenthal has been the model clinician and teacher.  He has provided the highest level of optometric care to his patients, taught and mentored hundreds of practitioners, and pushed the field forward with research and innovation.  The room was filled with people whose lives Dr. Rosenthal had dramatically impacted as a doctor, mentor, and friend. 

James Dubin, Lighthouse Guild Board Chairman and President and CEO Dr. Calvin Robertsshared the rich history of Dr. Rosenthal’s transformative career noting his pivotal role in the organization. After a brief video with heartfelt testimonies from patients and colleagues, Dr. Rosenthal graciously thanked his friends and colleagues and about the next phase in his career. 

The program ended with a special announcement about The Dr. Bruce Rosenthal Chair in Low Vision Services in honor of Dr. Rosenthal and to ensure that future generations receive the exceptional care that he provided. Funds will be raised to create a restricted endowment to sustain this vital position and carry forward Dr. Rosenthal’s illustrious legacy in perpetuity.
