KOLOA, Hawaii — In this Healio Video Perspective from Hawaiian Eye 2023, Calvin W. Roberts, MD, discusses a new understanding in the way patients with macular degeneration see.

“What they do is use their peripheral retina and scan their peripheral retina,” he said. “What happens is that the vision of someone who has macular degeneration is blurry, but throughout. There is no central black area or clarity on the outside because there are not enough cones in the peripheral vision to see.”
